The tower that I built
Has made me prisoner
The fortress where I hid
Has become my dungeon
The doors that kept them out
Have since then shut me in
The large shield where I crouched
Has fallen over me
The high fence ‘round my heart
Entraps even my screams
My ship that rode the flood
Has caught water and sunk
The armor that saved me
Now restricts my movements
The sword protecting me
Has pierced straight through my soul.
Just once can I be wrong?
Just once can I be weak?
Just once is it okay
if I fall, if I fail?
These others around me
Where have they been taught how
How to cry, how to beg
How to need each other?
How did they learn to speak
That language so foreign
“I need you, I want you
I trust you, I lo…”
All these words of freedom
Behind my heart they've crawled
Dug their heels shut their eyes
And refuse to come out
How I envy the free
Who suffer openly
Who let tears burn their cheeks
Who let pain overtake
How do they lay their souls
Wide open and naked?
Where do they find the strength
To let themselves be frail
Kneel under their burdens
Fall to the ground, vanquished?
I wish I could like them
Raise my palms to the sky
Helplessly like a child
Reach out for stronger arms
But I must be so strong
I’m too weak to be weak
I need hands to grab me
Pull me out of this grave
Melt the ice inside me
Warm my blood with their breath
And shatter the cold rock
Where I hide and feel safe
Pluck away all my thorns
Render me defenseless
I need hands to gently
Cup themselves 'round my heart
Show me how to, at once,
Feel vulnerable and safe
Give me the courage needed
To fall in someone's arms
With all my might whisper
"Please love me. I trust you"

I know this sand
I know this sand
I've walked these dunes before
I once left footprints
I can't find anymore
I gaze all around
For memories of me
But some were trampled upon
Some, eaten by the sea
Those steps are my life
The journey of my years
Those steps have at times
Accompanied my tears
Have they been erased
Did I ever matter?
Or did I just pass by
In the crowd, a stranger?
Thousands of footprints
Like a mosaic by the sea
I search among them:
None resembles me
I see feet that have run,
Skipped about merrily
Other prints somehow still
Seem to drag heavily
Little shapes - I guess a child?
Mid-dance abruptly end
Was she carried home that day
By a father's loving hand?
A peg made its mark
Like a rhythmic punctuation
Supporting an elderly hand
Or some other condition
There is one, barely there
Doesn't seem to belong
Half erased by the time
It laid here all alone
Like a hopeful Cinderella
I try its shape gently
My heart finds its rhythm
It fits me perfectly
My journey was halted
Yet I found it again
My legs are now weaker
Still, though trembling, I stand
My dark cloak of pain
Sown by life's hungry fears
I shed - now I breathe
As happiness draws near
Fire paints the sky red
Before me sets the sun
I run - wait! Wait for me!
Tomorrow has just begun...

The little things do matter
The little things you do now might not be felt immediately but
there is always a ripple effect. I am sure
many of you have done some things and wonder why you did them and other times
is very ecstatic that you did. The things you doo maybe small and seem
insignificant but you may not know the impact of what you do. Here are three
instances out of the many I have and still experiencing.
One day I was coming from work and saw a Toyota Prius on the
side of the road with the blinkers on. I was really funny what popped in my
mind. “I hope this car is not out of gas”,
I thought. I drove up behind it and sure it was. There was a lady and three
little children inside and I asked what happened. They told me they ran out of
gas and the husband left to get gas. I told her I will see if I can find him.
The sun was hot because it was summer. I
drove and did not find him. I went to two different gas stations and did not
find him so I went back to the car and upon reach he was about to leave again
for more gas because what he bought was not enough. I took him to the gas
station and to my amazement he gave me a full tank of gas. We had a long
conversation on where he is from and what he does. Apart from the gas, the
adventure was worth it.
On a different occasion I was on my way from work and
realized there was a Honda Odyssey at the red light, it then turned green ad I realized
people were driving around it. I pulled
passed the van and then backed up. What had happened is that the lady is an
older lady and she fell asleep and the light and when I backed up she woke up
and drove off. I was glad the light was still green when she awoke.
Finally, the thing you do may prompt someone else. I was
pulling up to a stop light a week ago and saw a car in the middle of the road
with a younger guy in it. I thought he was in the line so I drove by him but realized
he was not moving when I glanced through the rear view mirror. I backed up and
asked if he was OK He said the transmission went and he cannot move. I said OK
let’s push it out of the road at least. I asked if it ever happened and he said
no. OK, put the car In D3 and try it. He
did it and was excited because the gears are there and he always wonder what
they are for. I explained to him that he cannot drive to far and fast with it
because it is a single gear and it will not change like the normal D4.
When you do good, never give up if you do not see immediate
results, and if there are things that you started and have given up on, go give
it another try, as long as it is not wrong. Who know, your ripple may be felt
around the world.

Ever wish you could have done things different?
How many times do you
hear the familiar expressions; I wish I could have done things different, or,
if only I knew better, and the big one, if I could go back in time? Most times
those expressions are uttered when people have done some things they wish they
could have done better. A lot of those times, they are the little things that
were neglected over the years. The little things in life are the
things that matters most and often times they are what we spend the least time
with. The quest is, what do we spend time with most: is it the TV, the
internet, family, friends, or the quest for money and fame? I know we all have
some things in common, bit there are things that very much in our
thinking.
There is a common theme
that is in the majority of the homes nowadays, the independent
throne rooms. With the busy life of modern America, we do just about
everything to get the most out of a day including plunging the baby
before the TV to watch Baby Einstein. Studies
have shown that babies who spent a lot of time watching TV per day perform
lower in language skills than babies who spend less. As a Huffington
post article by Alice Park puts it; Marie
Evans Schmidt, a research associate at the Center on Media & Child Health
at Children's Hospital Boston, studied more than 800 youngsters from birth to 3
years, recording the time they spent watching television or DVDs as reported by
their mothers, as well as their performance on language and motor-skill tests.
On average, the babies spent 1.2 hr. per day watching TV during their first two
years of life, slightly less than the average viewing time reported in previous
studies
Even the
good things are to be done in moderation it seems. There is a quote that a lot
of us hear that says, "The average child
will watch 8,000 murders on TV before finishing elementary school. By age
eighteen, the average American has seen 200,000 acts of violence on TV, including
40,000 murders." Now we wonder why people become
so desensitized to the murdering of people. The mind is trainable and
by beholding we become changed, that is bible. I am not against TV or
using it as a tool for the teaching of young babies, but do we need to leave
them plugged in and unattended for
any long time?
I am a huge fan of the internet because it is a
wonderful tool that can be utilized in many ways, from the sale and
shipment of goods without leaving the home, to developing a website that can be
the next big thing. Often times though we are locked in online to the
point that time flew by without notice. A lot of the times we are looking at,
how should I say this...nonsense? The net is a beautiful thing, but are we
making good use of it, or is it as they say, "the internet is for porn?
There always a "need" for money. We
always want money to buy this and that and all the other things in between.
Sometimes, the quest for it and the acquisition, tend to change the core of a
person, and is many instances, not for the better. A lot of the time when
people have or gain a certain amount of money, they become an enemy or they
have enemies. It is very sad to say, but money and the search for it tend to
break so really good bonds and create some that are not the best for us.
What matters most in life are family, friends, and those
little things in life that we tend to not notice until we realize that they are
vital. If we should pause and think, no matter how much money we have, how
many or big the house, or how exotic the car is. The things that
makes us really happy are the little gems in life we can get without money. The friends, little walks, the funny things a child does, the
sunshine on our skin, the warm light on the grass and just being able to live
without fear. Most times the things that makes us happy are those that
are always beckoning to us yet they are not far away. So, we should
not wait until it is too late to turn the off, unplug from the internet,
pick up the baby even and read to him instead, I am sure your voice is much
better received than whoever the characters are, and who the narrator is on those DVDs. Let us spend time with our family,
friend, and those that really matters. We all make mistakes, but we can make a
change to reconnect to our true selves. Never forget though, that the things you cannot change you should not dwell on because that is the past. We can make amends now, we can say sorry or I forgive you. A new business can be started even. One cannot change the past, but you have today, make the best of it.
